SIAL food expo only takes place in October, but the winners of its SIAL d’Or new product competition have already been announced. Judging, by editors of 28 retail trade magazines from around the world, recently took place in Montreal.

The trade magazine, Supermarket & Retailer, is SIAL's local partner and editor, Laura Durham, reports back from Montreal that the basket of nine chosen South African products was highly commended by the 28 international judges.

So:Shi from Dynamic Commodities was awarded the prestigious South African Country Winner honour for SIAL d’Or 2012.

So:Shi is a sorbet dessert based on the concept of the popular Japanese delicacy, sushi. There are three different flavoured rolls, each wrapped in edible wafer paper: Lemon Sorbet with Kiwi and Strawberry Centre, Caramel Apple Sorbet with Caramel Centre, and Pomegranate Lemon Sorbet with Mixed Berry Centre. It is a completely new and innovative dessert on the South African market, perfect as an easy-to-prepare and delicious ending to a dinner party.
