New packs, new co-packing options from Orley Foods
Cape Town’s Orley Foods, the specialist chocolate and confectionery ingredients company, has added a brand new dimension to its inventory: the commissioning of a new filling line for liquid sauces which it believes will hold great appeal for several of its markets.
‘We took the step to invest in this new capacity as a result of customer demand for a greater range of pack sizes,’ says Craig Broadfoot, Orley strategic relationship manager.
‘We have historically only packed in bulk, from 3kg or litres upwards, but now we’ve the means to offer a range of bottle sizes, from 250ml to 2-litres for all our liquid products. We’re a customer-centric business – and we’ve listened and acted on what our customers want and this represents a new era of pack choice and flexibility for Orley.’
The products in question are the likes of liquid sauces such as milkshake syrups, ripples, toppings and emulsions – of interest for Orley’s key dairy, bakery and food service markets.
This development also opens new opportunities for co-manufacture and packing, stresses Craig: ‘We believe this should catch the interest of many food marketers, and especially those involved in private label. We have a lot to offer on this front – the best QA/QC credentials – recently winning ISO 22000 certification from the SABS – and excellent production equipment, backed by a very strong technical team of over 20 food scientists and technologists (above) who have a great deal of experience in new product development. We can also assist with distribution, depending on the supply channel.’
Orley’s new liquid line, supplied by another Cape Town company, Abtech, is dedicated to the hot filling of HDPE plastic bottles only, in sizes from 250ml to 2-ltires. The line is equipped with both a self-adhesive labeller and metal detector.
Garth Green Thomas (Orley production manager) and Carla Cerfontyne (NPD technologist) snapped with one of the first commercial production runs – a chocolate ice cream topping for a major fast food brand – on the new liquid filling line.
